‘Monochrome’, Glasgow Gallery of Photography CIC, Glasgow (2025)

The black and white photograph in the Monochrome exhibition was originally taken in late August 2016 Scoresby Sund, Semersooq, Greenland.

The original colour digital image was converted into black and white and then printed on low-grade printing paper. The image was hung outside, exposed to the elements over several weeks and faded by the UV rays of the sun, acting as a metaphor for the effects of climate change on the Arctic seascape and ultimately our rising sea levels.

The Monochrome exhibition provides the perfect context for this unique faded and dematerialised image in that it emphasises a tipping point, a moment of significant and irreversible change.
