‘Return Flight’, Orchestra of Strings, The Crypt Gallery, London (2010)
In late September the swallows prepare to migrate, a signal of the end of our English summer. Their annual migration leaves a sense of absence and loss that is tempered only by the promise of their return in the Spring.
In order to prolong their presence - the images of swallows have been drawn directly onto the white surface of blank jigsaw puzzles and placed on the walls. This silent flock is frozen in a moment of time, estranged from the blank frame of the jigsaw, leaving their outline as an absence, poignant with the sense of their return…
